Agrobank Pioneers Sustainable Link Loan –
First Agrotechnology Madani Loan for Cage-Free Production in Malaysia

November 23, 2024 – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – A new era in sustainable and ethical farming practices begins today with the official launch of the Malaysia Cage-Free Egg Producer’s Organisation (MCFEPO). This landmark initiative marks a significant stride towards better animal welfare and sustainable agriculture in Malaysia. The ceremony also celebrated the inauguration of the TC Poultry Farm, Malaysia’s first aviary-based poultry farm.

The event, held at TC Poultry Farm, was graced by Distinguished attendees, industry leaders, and advocates from across Asia joined to celebrate this impactful initiative. The event officiated by Dr. Saravanakumar S. Pillai Senior Advisor Farm Animal Welfare, Policy and Engagement, Humane Society International, a key advocate of ethical farming representing Humane Society International.. The launch underscores Malaysia’s commitment to global best practices in agriculture, ensuring the production of high-quality cage-free eggs that meet international standards.

Dr. Pillai, a staunch supporter of sustainable agriculture, shared his thoughts during the ceremony: “Today, we are witnessing a monumental milestone for the Malaysian agricultural sector. The launch of the Malaysia Cage-Free Egg Producer’s Organisation is a testament to our commitment to creating a more ethical, sustainable, and profitable ecosystem for our farmers and consumers. Cage-free farming not only ensures the welfare of our livestock but also meets the growing demand for ethically sourced products. TC Poultry Farm’s innovative aviary system sets a new benchmark for the industry, and I believe this is just the beginning of a broader transformation. Together, we can shape a future where agriculture aligns with the values of environmental stewardship and humane practices.”


In his remarks, En Syed Hairul Anuar Syed Fadzil, Chief Business Officer of Agrobank, highlighted the significance of AgroBank’s innovative approach to financing: “AgroBank is proud to support the launch of the first aviary-based poultry farm in Malaysia. The Dana Program Pembiayaan Agroteknologi Madani (DPPAM) has been instrumental in funding projects that innovate and modernize our agricultural landscape. This is the first loan of its kind approved for cage-free egg production in Malaysia, representing a groundbreaking moment for our agricultural financing framework. What’s more, the loan is part of AgroBank’s Sustainable-Linked Loan Program, directly tying financial support to sustainable farming practices. TC Poultry Farm exemplifies this mission, demonstrating how we can marry tradition with technology to achieve ethical and efficient outcomes. Adding further credibility to the event, Mr. Luiz Mazzon, representing HFAC Global, handed over the HFAC Certificate to TC Poultry Farm, cementing its compliance with global cage-free standards. This recognition positions TC Poultry Farm as a leader in adopting humane farming practices within this region. The ceremony concluded with the symbolic handover of the Dana Program Pembiayaan Agroteknologi Madani (DPPAM) cheque to TC Poultry Farm, signaling AgroBank’s continued commitment to advancing agricultural innovation in Malaysia. The launch of MCFEPO and TC Poultry Farm represents a turning point for Malaysia’s agricultural sector, with a firm focus on sustainability, ethical practices, and economic growth. As the nation takes steps towards more responsible farming, these milestones signal a brighter, more compassionate future for Malaysian agriculture.
