Outrage Over Dog Beaten to Death

Date: 30th September 2025

We strongly condemn the recent incident in Ipoh where a dog was cruelly beaten to death. Such brutality against innocent animals is unacceptable in a modern and compassionate Malaysia.

Animal cruelty is not only morally wrong but also a serious offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2015, particularly Sections 24 and 29, which carry penalties of up to RM100,000 in fines, three years of imprisonment, or both upon conviction. The law must be enforced firmly, and perpetrators of such heinous acts must face the full consequences of their actions.

As Malaysians, our humanity is measured not only by how we treat one another, but also by how we treat the animals entrusted to our care. Showing empathy and kindness towards animals reflects the values of our people and strengthens Malaysia’s standing as a nation of compassion. It also has far-reaching consequences on our international reputation, including its impact on tourism, global trade, and foreign confidence in Malaysia’s commitment to humane practices.

I urge all Malaysians to reject violence against animals and instead embrace empathy, responsibility, and respect for life. Communities, enforcement agencies, and policymakers must work hand in hand to raise awareness, enforce laws, and build a society where cruelty has no place.

The Malaysia Indian People Party (MIPP) believes that safeguarding animal welfare is not just a legal obligation, but a moral duty that reflects our maturity as a nation. Let this tragic incident in Ipoh be a reminder and a turning point for us to reaffirm Malaysia’s identity as a caring, compassionate, and progressive country.
