Kota Kinabalu, 14 May 2025 — Humane World for Animals marked a historic achievement at the 44th Malaysian Society of Animal Production (MSAP) Annual Conference by delivering 11 dedicated speaking sessions in the Grand Ballroom, spotlighting the critical role of cage-free egg production in driving sustainable agriculture and better animal welfare outcomes.
Held under the conference theme “Closing the Loop: Pioneering Circular Economics in Sustainable Animal”, this powerful presence of Humane World featuring both local and international speakers symbolises a national paradigm shift. For the first time, cage-free systems are not merely discussed, but elevated as a pillar of Malaysia’s future livestock strategy.
In a day packed with back-to-back expert sessions, Humane World for Animals and its collaborators spotlighted topics ranging from implementation frameworks and ESG in cage-free farming to empowering smallholders, regulatory innovation, corporate engagement, and market trends in humane egg sourcing. The conference’s recognition of cage-free production as a major thematic track occupying a full-day block in the premier ballroom venue marks an extraordinary advancement in the national conversation on sustainable food systems.
“This isn’t just a victory for Humane World, it’s a victory for humane, science-backed progress,” said Dr. Saravanakumar S. Pillai, Senior Principal for Policy and Engagement (Farm Animal Welfare), Humane World for Animals. “The MSAP platform has made it clear: cage-free is no longer a fringe aspiration, it is the new pillar of responsible food production in Malaysia and beyond.”
The dedicated sessions also featured Humane World for Animals speakers from Vietnam, India , Singapore and international companies such as Big Dutchman and Vencomatic, underscoring the global momentum driving this transition. Representing government, industry, and academia, the speakers united around a single message: the future of farming must align with both ethical values and economic resilience.
“As the organising committee, we are proud to showcase this bold initiative,” said Dr. Mohd Hishammfariz Bin Mohd Amin , Chairman of the 44th MSAP 2025 Organising Committee. “The scale of Humane World’s engagement reflects not only the quality of their work but the readiness of our livestock industry to embrace innovation, transparency, and improved animal welfare.”
This unprecedented level of participation was made possible through close collaboration with the Malaysia Cage-Free Egg Producer Organisation (MCFEPO), whose members also contributed thought leadership and practical insights.
“For us at MCFEPO, this is a defining moment,” stated Meor Ezree Syazrin Bin Meor Abdul Ghani, Treasurer of MCFEPO. “We are witnessing regulatory agencies, top producers, and market leaders converge to support cage-free farming not as an alternative, but as the standard. It is a clear signal that Malaysia’s farming future is changing for the better.”
“This moment signals that the cage-free movement is no longer just aspirational, it is actionable. As Malaysia’s first cage-free aviary farm, we are proud to stand alongside Humane World for Animals in leading this transformation. The momentum built at this conference proves that the market, the science, and the will are finally aligned,”
said Mr. Tiew Tien Siew, Managing Director, TC Farm.
With over 280 delegates from across nation and beyond in attendance, the 44th MSAP Conference has affirmed the strategic importance of cage-free systems in achieving Malaysia’s sustainable agriculture goals. Humane World for Animals’ impact at this conference cements its leadership in reshaping the regional agenda toward ethical, welfare-oriented, and market-driven livestock production.
Humane World’s presence at the conference represents not only an institutional milestone but also a national affirmation of cage-free production as a viable and necessary innovation for Malaysia’s food and farming future. In alignment with the conference theme, “Closing the Loop: Pioneering Circular Economics in Sustainable Animal,” these discussions underscore the essential role of humane systems in creating regenerative, ethical, and future-ready agriculture.
