Melaka, Malaysia, 10 October 2025 — Humane World for Animals and the Malaysia Cage-Free Egg Producers Organisation (MCFEPO) proudly congratulate Huat Lai Resources Berhad, Malaysia’s largest cage-free egg producer, for achieving the prestigious Humane Certified®️accreditation from the Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC) organisation based in the United States.
Huat Lai’s Cage-Free Egg Production Unit was certified on 7 October 2025, followed by its Cage-Free Liquid Egg Facility on 8 October 2025, marking a historic milestone for Malaysia’s egg industry and reaffirming the nation’s growing leadership in better welfare and sustainable food production. Huat Lai Resources Berhad is officially the fourth producer in Malaysia to obtain Certified Humane®️accreditation for cage-free egg production and the first producer in the country to achieve Certified Humane®️status for cage-free liquid eggs.
The Humane Certified®️label is among the world’s most credible, science-based certifications for farm animal welfare. It ensures hens are raised in spacious, cage-free environments with enrichment that enables natural behaviours such as nesting, perching, and dust-bathing. Certification also demands excellence in feed, lighting, environmental quality, and veterinary oversight, all verified through rigorous independent audits. Huat Lai’s achievement demonstrates that large-scale, commercial production can coexist with world-class welfare, transparency, and consumer trust.
Congratulating Huat Lai on this accomplishment, Dr Saravanakumar S. Pillai, Senior Principal for Policy & Engagement at Humane World for Animals, said:
“This milestone represents Malaysia’s transformation from conventional systems to truly better-welfare farming. Huat Lai’s leadership proves that the nation’s largest producers can champion animal welfare without compromising productivity or profitability. It sets a benchmark for Southeast Asia, a clear sign that compassion and commerce can thrive together."
“Huat Lai’s dual certification also signals Malaysia’s readiness to be a global voice in better welfare food production. By earning the trust of an internationally recognised body such as HFAC, Huat Lai has elevated Malaysia’s position as a responsible and forward-thinking agricultural nation committed to ethical and sustainable growth.”
Meor Ezree Syazrin Meor Abdul Ghani, Chairman-Elect of the Malaysia Cage-Free Egg Producers Organisation (MCFEPO), applauded the company’s progressive vision:
“Huat Lai’s Humane Certified®️ accreditation is a proud achievement for all Malaysian producers. It reflects the maturity of our industry and the strength of partnerships between producers, corporates, and welfare advocates. As the country’s largest cage-free producer, Huat Lai now serves as a role model for future transitions across the nation.”
Expressing appreciation, Daniel Lim, Sales and Distribution Manager, Egg Category, shared:
“This certification marks a defining chapter in our company’s journey. It reflects years of preparation, technological investment, and unwavering commitment to responsible farming. We are honoured to lead Malaysia’s cage-free transition and thank Humane World for Animals and MCFEPO for their guidance and trust. As Malaysia’s largest cage-free egg producer and the first to achieve Certified Humane®️for cage-free liquid eggs, we remain committed to producing safe, high-quality, and ethically sourced eggs for all.”
With this recognition, Huat Lai Resources Berhad stands as Malaysia’s largest and advanced Humane Certified®️cage-free producer, encompassing both shell and liquid egg products. This milestone enhances Malaysia’s reputation as a regional hub for better-welfare and sustainable egg production while inspiring more farms to follow the same humane path.
