Collaborative Pledge on Sustainable Development and Animal Welfare

On 19 July 2024, a significant step towards sustainable development and corporate responsibility was taken at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) as three prominent hospitality and business event organizations—Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Traders Hotel, and Impiana KLCC Hotel—joined forces with Humane Society International (HSI) to enhance animal welfare in the food supply chain.

The pledge, signed by representatives from each organization, including , John Bruke , Managing Director of KLCC, Azvil Aziz, General Manager of Impiana KLCC, Pamela Lee, Operation Director of Traders Hotel, and Dr. Saravanakumar S. Pillai, Senior Advisor, Farm Animal Welfare, Policy and Engagement at HSI. KLCC and Impiana KLCC commits to sourcing all shell eggs from cage-free sources by the end of 2028 and Traders Hotel commit of fully implement thier global cage free commitment by 2030. This initiative marks a major milestone in ethical sourcing practices in Malaysia’s hospitality sector and reinforces the commitment to sustainability and animal welfare.

During the event, John Burke, General Manager of the Centre, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the importance of working together to promote sustainability within the business events industry. He emphasized, “We are thrilled to collaborate with a partner who is passionate and committed towards responsible consumption. Working together is essential for promoting sustainability within our industry and our collaboration with MIFB signifies that Malaysia’s business events sector is on the right track. KLCC encourages all our other hotel and business events partners to join us in this transition, and we hope that more F&B players will also follow suit. We believe increased demand will drive greater supply and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.”

Burke’s statement reflects the Centre’s commitment to advancing responsible consumption and encouraging other industry players to embrace sustainable practices.
