Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Shoppers at selected AEON stores can now find a dedicated section for cage-free and free-range eggs, providing more choices that reflect evolving consumer preferences for responsible and sustainable food products.
Strategically placed in the egg aisle, this section features leading cage-free brands, including Genki by TC Poultry and LK Fresh by Liang Kee, along with visual panels that inform customers on the humane, health, and sustainability advantages of cage-free systems.
“Malaysia’s retail landscape is entering a new era. This cage-free eggs corner is not just a shelf, it’s a milestone in the journey toward better food systems,” said Dr. Saravanakumar S. Pillai, Senior Principal of Policy and Engagement, Humane World for Animals, and Adviser to the Malaysia Cage-Free Egg Producers’ Organisation (MCFEPO).
“Cage-free isn’t a trend, it’s a transformation. Hens deserve the freedom to perch, nest, and spread their wings. Consumers deserve honest, better-welfare-produced food. This is how change happens, one store, one shopper, one egg at a time,” Dr. Saravanakumar added.
Among the brands featured is Genki Eggs, proudly produced by TC Poultry, a pioneer in Malaysia’s cage-free transition.
“Seeing Genki Eggs proudly displayed in AEON’s dedicated cage-free section is a moment of immense pride. We’ve invested heavily in raising hens ethically with sunlight, space, and care. AEON has given these values a platform, and together, we’re giving Malaysians better choices,” said Tiew Siew Sien, Managing Director of TC Poultry.
The display also caught the attention of Richard Lee, a home tutor who was purchasing eggs during the visit.
“As an educator, I teach my students to be informed and intentional. Choosing cage-free eggs is my way of teaching compassion without a classroom. Thanks to AEON, I can shop with values, not just a shopping list,” Richard shared, holding a flyer on the benefits of cage-free production.
This move by AEON supports local producers working hard to meet international animal welfare standards in quality standard sourcing.
