KUALA KANGSAR, PERAK, MALAYSIA – 17 June 2026 – Regenerative Farmers Malaysia (RFM) has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first farm in Malaysia to obtain Certified Humane® certification for pasture-raised egg production, marking a significant advancement in the country’s farm animal welfare and regenerative agriculture landscape.
The certification, awarded under the internationally recognised Certified Humane® Raised and Handled® Program administered by Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC), verifies that laying hens are raised according to rigorous animal welfare standards that prioritise animal health, comfort, natural behaviour and responsible farm management.
Located in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, RFM produces pasture-raised eggs from hens raised within a coconut-poultry silvopasture system managed under Holistic Management principles. Hens have continuous access to outdoor pasture beneath a mature coconut canopy, allowing them to forage, dust-bathe, perch and express natural behaviours while contributing to soil regeneration through managed nutrient cycling. The certification represents the highest level of welfare assurance currently available for commercial egg production systems in Malaysia.
This achievement further strengthens Malaysia’s growing portfolio of better-welfare egg producers and demonstrates the increasing momentum towards more sustainable, regenerative and welfare-aligned food production systems.
Setting a New Benchmark for Animal Welfare
Dr. Saravanakumar S. Pillai, Senior Principal, Policy and Engagement for Farm Animal Welfare and Protection, Humane World for Animals, described the certification as a landmark achievement for Malaysia’s laying hens industry.
“The certification of Regenerative Farmers Malaysia as the country’s first Certified Humane® pasture-raised egg producer represents a major milestone for farm animal welfare in Malaysia. It demonstrates that Malaysian farmers can successfully adopt internationally recognised welfare standards while maintaining commercially viable farming operations.”
“This achievement goes beyond certification. It reflects growing consumer awareness, industry innovation and the commitment of progressive farmers who recognise that animal welfare, environmental stewardship and sustainable food production can work hand in hand. We congratulate Regenerative Farmers Malaysia for setting a new benchmark and helping to shape the future of responsible egg production in Malaysia.”
Growing Momentum in Malaysia’s Cage-Free and Better-Welfare Egg Sector
Meor Ezree, Chairman of the Malaysia Cage-Free Egg Producer Organisation (MCFEPO), said the achievement signals the continued evolution of Malaysia’s egg industry.
“We are delighted to welcome Regenerative Farmers Malaysia into the growing community of producers committed to higher animal welfare standards. Becoming the first Certified Humane® pasture-raised egg producer in Malaysia is a remarkable accomplishment and demonstrates the diversity of production systems available to support better welfare outcomes.”
“This milestone sends a positive message to the industry that there is growing market recognition and demand for eggs produced under independently verified welfare standards. It will inspire more producers to explore cage-free, free-range and pasture-raised systems as part of Malaysia’s agricultural transformation.”
Regenerative Agriculture Meets Animal Welfare
Michael Ong, Founder of Regenerative Farmers Malaysia and Founding President of Persatuan Pertanian Regeneratif Malaysia (PPRM), said the certification reflects the organisation’s broader commitment to regenerative agriculture and responsible food production.
“This achievement embodies the principles of regenerative agriculture, where animal welfare, environmental sustainability and long-term farm resilience are deeply interconnected. Our farming model is built on the understanding that healthy soil produces healthy pastures, which in turn supports healthier animals and more nutrient-dense food. It is a system designed to work with nature, not against it.”
“Being recognised as Malaysia’s first Certified Humane® pasture-raised egg producer is a proud moment for our members and farming community. We hope this milestone encourages greater collaboration among farmers, retailers, policymakers and consumers in building a food system that is both sustainable and humane.”
Expanding Consumer Access to Better-Welfare Eggs
The certification adds to the growing availability of better-welfare egg products in Malaysia and supports increasing efforts by retailers, hospitality operators, food manufacturers and food service companies to source eggs from farms that meet recognised animal welfare standards.
Industry stakeholders believe the achievement will help accelerate the development of premium better-welfare egg markets while strengthening consumer confidence through transparent, independently verified certification systems.
As Malaysia continues its journey towards more sustainable and responsible food production, Regenerative Farmers Malaysia’s achievement serves as a powerful example of how innovation, animal welfare and regenerative farming practices can work together to create positive outcomes for animals, farmers and consumers alike.
