New Delhi, India – May 25, 2025 — A recent episode of Eco India delves into the intriguing question: Can the well-being of hens influence the taste and quality of their eggs?

The episode, titled “Could Happy and Healthy Hens Make Eggs Taste Better?”, broadcast by Deutsche Welle and Scroll . in, places a well-deserved spotlight on Happy Hens’ model of ethical, sustainable, and science-based egg production.

As one of the region’s first truly pasture-based egg producers, Happy Hens is now being recognized as a trailblazer in better welfare farming, exemplifying how improved animal welfare directly contributes to better food quality, business integrity, and climate-resilient food systems.

A Model for the Future of Ethical Egg Production in Asia

Founded in Bengaluru, Happy Hens is a compelling example of how compassion driven farming can scale successfully while maintaining transparency and quality. Their commitment to cage-free and pasture-based systems allows hens to live in natural conditions, experiencing sunlight, freedom to roam, and enriched environments that support their physical and psychological well-being.

Dr. Saravanakumar S. Pillai, Senior Principal, Policy and Engagement for Farm Animal Welfare at Humane World for Animals, and Advisor to MCFEPO, stated:
“Happy Hens has boldly reshaped the narrative of better welfare egg production in Asia. As consumer expectations evolve and ESG standards tighten, their success offers a roadmap for producers across the region. MCFEPO proudly celebrates Happy Hens for this inspiring milestone and reaffirms our commitment to accelerating the cage-free transition throughout Malaysia and beyond.”

Happy Hens’ feature comes at a critical time, as food companies across Asia including in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia face increasing pressure to meet animal welfare commitments under ESG mandates and global supply chain scrutiny.

MCFEPO’s ongoing work in Malaysia, in partnership with Humane World for Animals and global certifiers like Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC), includes producer training, financial support for infrastructure transition, and a star-rating system to track corporate implementation of cage-free commitments.

Dr Saravanakumar emphasized:
